swift bird nest
The project addresses the nesting challenges faced by swift birds in urban environments through a sustainable, modular nesting system. Developed as part of Shenkar’s "Environment and Society Studio" course in Interior Design, Structure, and Environment, this system provides a long-term solution by simulating natural nesting conditions.
Swifts, crucial for controlling flying pests, have seen their populations decline due to climate change and urbanization, which reduce their nesting areas and expose them to predators. Our design, based on extensive research into swift habits and migration, creates nest points elevated at least 7 meters to accommodate their flight needs and protect them from threats. The system can be installed on building walls or balcony railings, mimicking natural nesting conditions and encouraging swifts to build and thrive in urban settings.
